April Lockhart

April Lockhart born 4 July 1995. She started with guitar and piano in the 7th grade, which ignited her interest. At the age of seven she began to take guitar and piano lessons. It sparked her interest to write songs. At the age of 14, April devoted a great deal of her time making song lyrics and working on the music she was playing. She began writing along with her dad in NY and LA shortly after. April also began incorporating various other topics relevant to the"Take my Hand song for some close friends, like peer pressure problems and suicides among teenagers. Lockhart also enjoys an increasing fan base as a lifestyle blogger as well as a spokesperson for the popular clean beauty company Ilia. She has a disability that is a component of her identity, but it's not all of the picture. Lockhart does not deny that she has a disability on her Instagram account, but she isn't making it the focal point of it. It's a message. The message? That we have many different aspects, that our identity and physical selves are not all that they seem. Lockhart has stated on video that she does not want to be defined by her handicap. She doesn't want to be a disability advocate who only talks about disability. There are a lot of aspects of Lockhart. The issue doesn't affect my everyday routine. I go about my business as usual and have developed my own ways to adapt. Since it's a my identity It's a topic worth talking about. Self-acceptance is a long marathon but Lockhart is a true inspiration for this aspect. However, she acknowledges going through periods of being uncomfortable with her body at times not being confident in wearing certain types of clothing which showed off her arms. She wears whatever she wants and posts photos of herself in the outfits she picks out on social media. The journey itself is what I'm not certain that will ever be the end of self-love. But I think that's for everyone, whatever they are struggling with. I think it is important to surround yourself with people who can really know you.
