Nadia and Carol

Nadia Comaneci (Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej currently Onesti) Romanian Gymnast born November 12, 1961. She was the first Romanian to score a of 10 in the Olympic event. Bela Karrolyi who was the Romanian gymnastics trainer who would become Comaneci's coach in later years found her around the age of six. The year 1969 was the first time she took part at the Romanian Junior Championships and finished 13th. She was awarded the championship in 1970. Three gold medals were awarded in her debut competition in a junior pre-Olympic meeting in 1972 for communist countries. Between 1973 and 1974, she became the junior all-round champion. Her first senior competition in the year 1975, she defeated Russian Lyudmila Turkishcheva. She was the five-time European champ winning four gold medals and one silver. She won the American Cup in New York City in 1976, becoming the first woman to perform a backward double salto as dismounting from the uneven bars that are parallel. Carol Marie Wayne is a US citizen born September 6, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois. Carol's first job was in entertainment during her teenage year. She started her career performing figure skating with Nina Wayne, her younger sister, in the traveling entertainment programs Ice Capades. Ice Capades was a show that featured skaters ice skating with actors.
