Jennifer Garner is a West Virginia native who was born in Houston on the 17th of April, 1972. Her father, William John Garner, was a chemical engineer at Union Carbide. The mother of her Patricia Ann taught at a local university. In order to follow in the footsteps of her father, she graduated with an engineering degree in chemical science. In order to pursue her dream of acting the actress decided to move in New York and try her hand in acting in Hollywood. Her Broadway roles were accompanied by work at a local restaurant. Garner was a guest star in the series "Felicity." (It it was on this show that she met her first husband, Scott Foley.) Garner was first seen in Alias which is an action-thriller. Her debut performance was in the highly praised love story 13 Going on 30. In it she played the teenager trapped inside a 30plus year old's body. Garner chose Gary Winick for the role as director. The two continued working with each other on various projects until Winick died in 2011. In 2009, Garner has been named as an ambassador to the arts for Save the Children U.S.A. This role involves the promotion of nutrition and literacy in the United States and early elementary education. Garner is a board member for this nonprofit organization from 2014. She promotes early childhood education. As a member of the Early Steps to School Success (EASS) Ambassador team for the EASS program, Garner visits families regularly to provide them with strategies to motivate their children to achieve.
